How to Serve: Çaykur Organic Hemşin Black Tea

Turkish tea is brewed strong in a two-tier teapot (çaydanlık) and served in small tulip glasses, mixed with hot water to each person's taste.

Serving Ideas

  • Çaydanlık method: Fill the bottom pot with water and bring to a boil. Put 1 heaped tablespoon of tea per person (about 4–5 tbsp for a family pot) in the top pot.
  • Rinse & steep: Splash the leaves with a little cool water, add some boiling water from the bottom pot, set it on top and let it steep on very low heat for 10–15 minutes until the leaves sink.
  • Pour to taste: Fill a tulip glass a third to half way with the brew and top up with hot water: less water for koyu (strong), more for açık (light).
  • Serve with: Breakfast cheese, olives and simit, or sweets like baklava, helva and künefe.

Tips

  • Use soft or filtered water; hard water dulls the color and aroma.
  • Never boil the leaves or reheat brewed tea, it turns bitter.
  • Organic teas are delicate; a slightly shorter steep keeps them smooth.
