Authentic Recipe: Bal Kaymak (Honey & Clotted Cream Breakfast)

The most loved Turkish breakfast treat: thick, fresh kaymak on warm bread, drizzled with honey. Simple, but it's how mornings start in Istanbul's breakfast cafés.

Serves: 2 | Prep: 5 min | Cook: None

Ingredients

  • 1 pack fresh kaymak
  • 3 tbsp good honey (comb honey if you can find it)
  • Fresh bread, simit or açma
  • Turkish tea, to serve

Instructions

  1. Let the kaymak sit at room temperature for 10 minutes so it softens.
  2. Spoon it onto a plate and drizzle the honey over the top.
  3. Warm or toast the bread.
  4. Spread thickly and eat with hot Turkish tea.

Tips

  • Kaymak is also lovely on baklava, künefe or ekmek kadayıfı.
  • Keep it cold and use within a few days of opening.
