Authentic Recipe: Tahin Helvası Plate (Tahini Halva Breakfast & Dessert)

Tahini halva is eaten all over Turkey: at breakfast with bread, after meals with tea, and as a winter dessert. Here are the classic ways to serve it.

Serves: 4 | Prep: 5 min | Cook: 5 min (optional)

Ingredients

  • 1 block tahini halva (plain, cocoa or pistachio)
  • Fresh bread or simit
  • Kaymak or clotted cream (optional)
  • Chopped pistachios or walnuts
  • Turkish tea

Instructions

  1. Breakfast style: slice the halva thinly and eat it with fresh bread or simit and a glass of tea.
  2. Dessert style: crumble the halva into small bowls, add a spoon of kaymak and top with chopped pistachios.
  3. Warm style (helva tostu): sandwich thin slices of halva between bread and toast in a pan until the halva softens.
  4. Serve right away with hot tea.

Tips

  • Halva keeps well at room temperature; wrap it tightly once opened.
  • Crumble it over vanilla ice cream for a quick dessert.
